The BLUE LAKES Series
The series was shot in the eastern part of Greenland and documents the phenomenon of the blue meltwater lakes on Greenland’s inland ice-sheet.
The meltwater lakes form on the inland ice sheet of Greenland as the sun warms the surface of the ice.
Water collects in crevasses and depressions on the glacier's surface and leads to the formation of large blue lakes.
The unique blue color of the meltwater lakes is primarily due to the way light interacts with water, the characteristics of the ice, and the presence of impurities.
This phenomenon not only creates a stunning visual spectacle but also serves as an important indicator
of the ongoing changes in Greenland's ice sheet and its potential impact on global sea levels.
What appears to be “candy for the” eye is a toxic beauty in the end.
When the lakes fill up, the water eventually drains down into crevasses, potentially reaching the base and bedrock of the glacier.
This process can lubricate the glacier's movement, causing it to slide faster into the ocean and contribute to sea-level rise.
The photographs of the series are available as limited fine art prints.
