The SALT Series
The series was shot in the southern part of France and documents the raw industrial process of salt harvesting
and the abstract beauty that comes with it.
Since thousands of years humans have formed their habitat according to their needs.
Salt harvesting is one of the oldest practices known to humans.
In various cultures, salt was so valuable that it was sometimes used as a form of currency or traded as a commodity.
The artistic aspect of salt harvesting goes beyond the practical process and delves into the aesthetic, cultural, and creative dimensions associated with this age-old industry.
For salt harvesting in Salinas, shallow artificial ponds are created where seawater is allowed to evaporate, leaving behind the salt crystals.
The vibrant colors are a result of specific microorganisms and minerals in the ponds and change significantly during the process of evaporation.
Once the salt is harvested after summer, the ponds are filled again with sea-water and the process starts anew.
The aerial perspective gives overview and insights into this craft within the overall context.
The photographs of the series are available as limited fine art prints.
